I am getting a 225g 6'x2'x2.5' and want that floating in air crystal clear water. How do I get that? The filtration will be a 30 gal wet dry sump with a 36w uv and two fluval 405s. What filtration should I add to get to make sure the water is super clear?

Diatom filter did it for my 75g. Can't run it forever, but it goes for a few days and removes practically every particulate grain in the tank that passes through it.

Filter socks are pretty good, too. I use nylon paint strainer bags.

1. diatom. clearest water possible. i used to run my continuously. they can handle it just fine.

2. filter socks. 50 micron will keep it crystal clear. 25 micron will be stupid clear.

Filter socks come in different micron ratings so the smaller the micron the more it filters and the water will be clear. They will also need changed faster.

With filter socks do you have to replace the sock or just clean it? And do filters with a micron cartrige work well? And can you explail diatom never heard of it...

i just toss my filter socks in the washer w/o any soap. come out looking brand new. a diatom filter uses a fine diatom powder to filter out particles down to 1 micron i believe. do a google search, youll find the company that sells them

Are they worth it cause it says you can only use it 8 hours a week? And were do you put the filter socks if the sump doesnt have a compartment for one?

i ran mine 24/7 for months with no problems. they can run continuously. as for filter socks, youd have to figure out a way to modify your sump...

Is all the normal filtration good enough? What about filters with a micron cartridge?
