Not feeding them for a day certainly shouldn't do them any harm.

It is ok to starve older fish, but juvies wouldn't be recommended, and a day isn't exactly starving, my Piranha eat 1-2x per week, but their obviously different.
I always say a hungry fish is a healthy fish, species that just sit their lethargic because they are fat, Overfed will die much quicker from fat deposits and the risk that goes with all that.
How old and big are your cichlas?

I would cut fd shrimp and switch to some NLS thera A, check out the ingredients:
I have had tremendous success with the brand and IME best food on the market, I've tried hikari and omega one for some time and not even close.

I think hikari is a good brand but I think prawns, silver sides, and tilapia should be their main diet with pellets every other day. Just MO though, I believe pellets are best used along with frozens.
