so i shouldnt use the flood bulbs for vivariums that need high humidity then?

Yes you should but there is no need to get something with that high of wattage for a 55 gallon tank. If you have taken all the info on this thread and covered 3/4 of the top and placed the hot spot closer to the basking area you will achieve 115F with a 50 watt bulb and it will keep the ambients at range. Just dont use those diamond halogens for the reasons already stated. Just tinker with the lighting and basking area until you get the needed temps. You do that by elevating/lowering the basking spot.

exactly. we arent going to tell you to do something thats going to harm your lizard.

as ive stated ive been using these for YEARS with absolutely no issues. all of my herps use these lights. ive used them in high humidity enclosures. my iguanas being one of them and my monitors. i spray both cages constantly. so humidity is always high.

you could prob use a lower watt bulb. but im not sure if they come any lower than 50 watts

oh ok i was just woindering
i was getting the impression u guys were tellin me not to use them in humid vivariums and such
so they will explode if i get water on them?
thats kinda scary

any heat light bulb could explode if it got wet. well anything that gets super heated could explode if it gets wet i guess.

ive never had any issues. granted i dont spray the bulbs directly.

o ya i bought one yesterday
the temp only got to 84 when it was about 6 inches away
my heat emiter gets it to about 93 from that distance.
i think il stick with the emiter

maybe you bought something different. i have one about 8 inches away from the basking spot for my monitors and its at 125 right now.

you still need to get it hotter in there for him

actually the basking gets to about 100 when i have the strip light on
but il just keep my eye out for halogens
