The frys are huge, with sometimes thousands of fish in it. On top of that if you know how to look them you will find them everywhere. Also, thats what all the pbass and lm bass are feeding on.

I actually catch them on small pbass I catch for live bait. There asually is a fry of 3-4 inchers around somewhere and all the pbass and lmbass just hang around. I also use brim and little oscars and sometime artificials. You can see the chewed bait in the pix. Its hard to say where to go spot are hot at diffrent times. I just go from spot to spot looking around, most spots are right of the street, they pile up on the tunnels that go under the streets. they usually like pretty shallow water or place near shallow water. When they spawn they come real shallow and make a bed. I also hear about them being caught in the everglades with rummors of some 10 pound fish. Personal biggest is about 6-7 pounds, at least.

small pbass shouldn't be used for bait like that, that's why there are size limits etc. in the regs
 
I'm going to the Keys in March...perhaps I'll leave early and do some fishing rather than just spending all my time drinking heavily in key west.

Still. You can always use other bait. Give the pbass a chance!!!!!!!! I know i sound like PETA but thats just odd to me
 
It hard to understand because everyone here keeps them as pets. It depends on your point of view. The pbass down here get hit hard in all the areas I fish (center of miami). Most people kill them and eat them anywhere from 10" and up. Also the cold weather kills many in place were the water gets to cold. But still there is nothing stopping them they are way too agressive and all the native species have to keep up. Most of the fry never makes it to adult hood, theres just to much fish feeding on them. I watch the frys sometime with there gardian taking care of them. As it chasee one fish away several others pig out on the baby pbass. Each fish kill much more pbass than I ever will. Pbass dont need much help the down here they are everywhere.
