Carp that are released are usually Sterile Hybrids so they do not reproduce. They are used to get all the exotic plants out of the water way
Manatees would do just that as well...And the fact that they are hibrids doesant have anything to do with fertility, many hibrid fish are more then able to breed, think flowerhorns.

It has everything to do with Sterility........They are "manufactured" that way.......

Is that so there is little chance of them overpopulating the area?

Yep.......Hence why they need to be stocked and are "property" of the
State........Just look up triploid Grass Carp Hybrids.........

But you are saying that they are sterile because they are hibrids or because they are porpousely sterilized or what? By the way I already finded evidence that they can be very harmfull for example to aligators.

They are Triploid Hybrids........Triploid Hybrid anything can't reproduce......Haploid Hybrids can.........Besides 90% of the Water Grass Carp are stocked in isn't suitable habitat for resident Gators........Only Transient Males looking for new areas........

It's not a pleasure seeing all the dead invasive extoic species around these parts, but i'm sure glad it happend. Anyone releasing invasive species into the wild should be arrested by FWCC and prosecuted by the state. Thats my opinion and I'm sticking to it. Have a good day guys.
I agree totally ,they have beautifull natives in South Florida without the exotics, and some of the natives are found no where elso in the world!

True ....so very true. I read one place that there is a certain percentage of these grass carp that can reproduce!
