Florida Gar 125g

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have two gars (spotted and florida) in a 180 with an oscar,RTC,CK,RTCxTSN, and a silver aro... The only aggression ever is the CK attacking the gars everyone in a blue moon. Keep them well fed and you'll be good for a few years.... When the gar starts to swim in patterns and doesn't move naturally look to sell or upgrade. I would even look at maybe going with a 5x3x2 tank and going with 2 gars and an oscar depending on its temperament. and how you feed them (live vs.non live). What was key for me was that the gar was bigger then the oscar but not so big as to where he could eat/really hurt him. Btw my above statements are only true because of that beast filtration you have going for you?? How often will you do water changes/What type of aeration are we looking at btww? This tank sounds cool.

I just feel like pointing out that this is a terrible tank for gars to be in. Almost all of the tankmates you have are species that are not recomended. RTCs and their hybrids can outgrow and eat gars. Silvers arowanas and gars are known for being a bad combination as well which can result in the loss of one or both of the species. Oscars and almost all cichlids are also not recomended gar tankmates. Probably best not to suggest based on a combination that is the exception rather than the rule.

I disagree with the first sentence of your post. It's a terrible tank for all those fish. :shakehead

You are mistaken the gars are the kings of my tank right now and they won't all be together forever obi. in a 180. The oscar is very mild tempered and they don't bother the silver aro or vice versa at all. Please don't make quick assumptions like that dude... However it is an exception to the rule I guess and was kinda only my advice from personal experience. Next time don't bother to "feel like pointing it out".

Then next time don't give out terrible advice on a combination that you have only had together for a couple months.
