So I recently just recieved two Florida gars. A 14 and 12 incher. The are for now in a 56 soon to be 125. I will upgrade when they get bigger if I have to know problem there.

So is it normal for them to just sit on the bottom alot. I will walk in the fish room and ome times their swimming around then next time their just chilling on the bottom. They seem to like each other, they will sit at the bottom near each other often. Their in a 56, so not alot of room to move lengthwise, plenty wide though. So doe this sound right, do they just chill near or at the bottom of the tank often? I did just get them so I'm sure their a little confused.

They were in a rubbermaid tub before I got them, so their noses must have hit the side a bit because they look like their rubbed off a little. Should I use some Melafix on them, or will it just continue to happen and just forget about it unless it becomes an issue?

Thanks guys, these things are pretty cool. I had 5 giant danios in their tank from their old inhabitant.Less than 36 hours later their mysteriously dissapeared.:D:D:D It's cool though, could care less about them, at least I know their full.:)

laying at bottom or swimming if its laying dont think it is

THey just sit there at the bottom sometimes. They swim to the bottom of the tank and will just sit there. Not forever just for a few minutes.

oh then thats normal

sounds great:) gars will rest at the bottom of the tanks during the day and at night. melafix shouldn't be used on gars, they heal great on their own. but if you want them to heal faster, add salt and bump temp. good luck:cool:
