Florida Gar pond tankmates

Don't do Bowfin-nasty fish! My friend got one from Jonahs-he has a site e-mail him on the behavior and aggression of these fish-very mean!!

Snapping turtles would probably cause less trouble than cichlids lol. The snapper I used to have was fine with fish too big for him to eat.
 
Thats why ive decided to do an all gar pond to make sure i dont have compatability issues.:D I just need some input on how many i could put in a 4'x6'x2' pond without overcrowding.
 
If you have some dense vegetation or other cover, you could probably get a population of fast-breeding forage fish such as mosquitofish or fathead minnows going in there. Mosquito control and free meals for your gar!

I would like to do that i just havent found any around here. I know there in the ponds around but i havent been able to find any when i go out.
 
Look for shallow water, soft substrate, and lots of vegetation. You should be able to net all the mosquitofish you want out of that sort of habitat.
