Florida Gar pond tankmates

Don't do Bowfin-nasty fish! My friend got one from Jonahs-he has a site e-mail him on the behavior and aggression of these fish-very mean!!

let's throw in snapping turtles while we're at it... come on dude do you not do ANY research before posting? aggressive cichlids?? PLECOS??

Snapping turtles would probably cause less trouble than cichlids lol. The snapper I used to have was fine with fish too big for him to eat.

Thats why ive decided to do an all gar pond to make sure i dont have compatability issues. I just need some input on how many i could put in a 4'x6'x2' pond without overcrowding.

If you have some dense vegetation or other cover, you could probably get a population of fast-breeding forage fish such as mosquitofish or fathead minnows going in there. Mosquito control and free meals for your gar!

I would like to do that i just havent found any around here. I know there in the ponds around but i havent been able to find any when i go out.

Look for shallow water, soft substrate, and lots of vegetation. You should be able to net all the mosquitofish you want out of that sort of habitat.
