i was watching my gar today and he was rubbing all over my TSN for some odd reason he wasnt nipping him he was just rubbing up against him anyone know whats going on?
its so odd watching it because the TSN is still a little bit larger than the gar so if i had a video camera i would tape it..... it kind of makes you wonder

This type behavior is a "kind of sort of" Social display with gars. it is often performed to try and size up or reduce the dominance of a larger or equal sized Gar in order to gain temporary territory or prime feeding locations. Gars do this amongst themselves all the time. It seems mostly to be a Lepisosteus behavior But I have seen it in Atractosteus especially with very young fish.
The TSN has no idea what he is doing of coarse, which is why the gar keeps doing the first portian of this common gar behavior which is flashing or nudging. This behavior in Gars is followed by a "Tail chase" until one is driven off. With no initiation of the "Tail chase" it is often the case a gar will just keep performing the first portion of the act (nudging and flashing) until they get tired of it.
