I would be more worried of the gt and jd picking on the gar, gar are very peaceful fish and can get picked on very easy. IME its does not work out well for the gar, others have had it work but I saw a ripped tailfin and I didn't let it go one longer than that.

Since your pond is only 2.5' wide, I would stick with the smaller members of gars. The Florida and Spotted would be my suggestions. Below is a link to some great info on gars from right here in MFK. I would highly recommend checking it out.

You will need to take into account a gar's rapid growth that could easily put them at several times the size of your other fish in just their first year of life. If any of the fish you care about are 1/4 or less the size of the gar, you can could on it being on the gar's menu. But as Mr. dempsey said, you will also want to make the gar isn't small enough that the other fish pick on it. If you can successfully account for these potential issues, I think it will be a great addition to the pond plan. And it too will keep the convict population in check. You might actually never have to feed it. LOL

I thought the 2.5 was the depth. 26 ft long 11 ft deep and 2.5 feet wide? Lol.

LOL You're right. I totally mixed my measurements up when reading the old thread. Oops. :D

Well in that case, pretty much anything will work. I would still stick with a smaller species as the large ones get to be 3-4' long and will very likely attack the smaller 8-10" GT and JD.

Maybe a Spotted gar, might be a better fit.

so a spotted gar for sure wont eat a full grown green terror or jack dempsy? just want to make sure because from the pictures i have seen their mouths are huge.

Mouths are huge, but the throat is too narrow to swallow an adult GT or JD. You should be perfectly fine with a Spotted gar. The Spotted gar also only gets to be 16-18" on average in the aquarium, which is only double the size of a full grown GT or JD.
