Florida Heat

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've got AC running all the time. 2 fans running. Atm I have 1 smaller fan pointing towards the tank and its gotten quite cooler.
Wow.If you've already got all of that going on then I am at a loss of what else to suggest for you.

Ice in a bag will not cause any sudden temperature changes. Imagine putting 3 ice cubes in a glass of 81 degree water. Does the ice suddenly melt turning the water suddenly cold?

Let's do the math:

One half cubic foot of ice weighs 28.5 lbs. That's a LOT of ice. Let's assume it's 20 degrees.

The water in a 75 gallon tank weighs around 626 lbs. Let's assume it's 81 degrees.

If the ice were placed in the tank and if all the heat energy from the water was instantly absorbed by the ice, the tank temperature would suddenly drop by 2.7 degrees.

Not much. And of course, it won't be instantly.

Ice isn't a problem.

I know they make little clip fans for like... baby strollers and your desk. Maybe you can rig something up at the top of the tank that can clip to the side and blow downward? I would also try to use some big pc case cooling fans if that would work with some sort of adapter. They are super quiet. Plus you can get them with LED's haha.

Anyway 81 shouldn't be anything to worry about with tropicals as long as you have a good air pump and airstone. The penn plax bubble bar things work pretty good. Got a big one for 3 bucks on amazon. I'd only worry if you keep cooler water species like goldies or something.

Thank you so much. Ill definitely get some ice in a bag into the water for a while.

You should invest your money into a chiller (I'm pretty sure it's not a big deal of financial issue if you owning a beast PC with 3 monitors), it's probably cheaper and less headache than a constant a/c running and doesn't help much to reduce your tank water temp.

Great idea.

Do you have tint on your windows? I'm in FL as well, when I added it to my front room I could instantly feel the difference.

Also it has nothing to do with the fish tank but how do you cool the pc? If it's only air cooling you might consider upgrading to watercooling. Keep the inside of the pc cooler and the exhaust will be cooler. Just a thought.
