I have two Florida gars (8 inches and about 10 inches) in a 150 (temp growout) tank along with my RTC(10inches), TSN(8.5inches) and Longbarbed(8inches), the three of which will be moving to the pond in about a month....

anyways, everything else in the tank loves the seafood medley I'm feeding them which includes shrimp, calamari and mussles...but these two wont touch it. They'll only eat frozen bloodworms (thawed before they go in the tank). I'm worried their not eating enough, even though they are active and don't look thin....

tips?

Also, I've got a 8X3X30inches (450) deep tank being built just for these guys...well them and two or three more floridas...so I need em fat!

anyone?

i dont know mine will eat anything i put in there tank even pellets! Get them some live feeders mine always loved those as a treat!

I'll have to try that...damn spoiled fish *shakes fist*

keep trying and they will eat just about anything you want them to. gar usually are not fussy eaters.

also...those catfish are not wise tankmates to keep with a gar.

can I ask why? They've been doing fine for a few months now, and don't even seem to notice one another (not even when it's lights out)

I'm not trying to be argumentative, just wondering. If it's due to the long term size, the cats are going in a pond soon, and the gars will be all by themselves....

large catfish have a way of making things disappear. in the end you can do whatever you want, but as the catfish grow...so will it's apetite and mouth. :D

But realistically they should be okay for like two more weeks while the new gar tank cycles??? It's done being built, I just need to get it out to my place, downstairs and filled etc.
