Florida Native Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Seems unlikely considering how restrictive your laws are. They're not the most attractive of the sunfish, though, so if you want to put the effort into finding out if you can get some, check out the other centrarchid species first.

Longear sunfish are gorgeous, I only seem to catch them when I have no way of bringing them home....:(

If you can I'd go for some of those.

nice looking sunfish. the blue gills do actually have some great coloring in them when kept in clean water. and lil piggies they are. the first couple of days they didnt want to eat, now they eating everything :) including the over run of snails in the tank hahaha

you basically deal with them as if they were cichlids when it comes to aggression. Pleco should be fine with them, just with all those sunfish and a pleco I'm assuming the tank is pretty big

I have them in a 55g grow out tank, then to my pond to finish their journey in life :)

Actually IMO, a tank of smaller florida natives is much more interesting than a "big fish" setup. With all the native killies and livebearers there is quite a few setups one can come up with. you can also use something like madtoms in some setups, like with maybe flagfish. A lot of options are available looking outside of the more popular larger florida fish (bass, sunfish, gars. etc)

I'm not wanting the small minow fish hahaha besides the native tank i setting is of fish thats in my area.
