Depending on were you are at Cali, I'd say you could probally put one in your pond. And to say they are fully aquatic is , well , not completly true. My female basks about once a week. You'll never see them out of water for long though, but thats cuase they are very secretive animals. She does stay out long enough to get dry. I'd say go for it. They sould be alright with sliders if the pond is big enough. Their shells are delicate and and easily infected if scratched. Mine tend to stay away from other turtles exept when its feeding time(WATCHOUT!!). My floridas will be outside next year. Building new pond now...Oh yeah baby!

well, as no one has yet to mention it... if you do end up getting one ALWAYS keep in mind they can and do deliver a very nasty bite!

also i no this is spelled wrong but there poop carrys salmonela or something like that so when doing watter changes and tank maintnce make shore not to have any cuts or sores on your hands and this goes for all turtles. I dont ebelev they fully quatic .Becuase last summer when i went to florida i caught one on the road in the middle of the glades. Im sorry i traded it in like i did when i got back but crap happens
