No fly river turtle, but this guy is pretty cool! already a bit snappy, but didn't want to pose for the camera.

yes, but there is a loophole.
its tank must be shallow enough for it to lay on the bottom, reach the long neck up, and take a breath of air without swimming to the surface. plus they are ferocious, so dont count on keeping any fish with them. also they grow to be just tan and ugly. what can i say? i love softshells!
 
I have a softshell but i dont know what kind its 4 1/2 in and its tan with black spots on its shell
 
without even checking i think you have a spiny soft shell.

but yeah, its a buzzkill not to be able to watch them swim in a filled tank, but they are still neat.

should be a Spiny Softshell.
 
I kept softshells when I was younger and grew them out pretty large and always had the tanks filled all the way....hmmmm....
