Okay guys here it is!
A disclaimer: My Jeep had been totaled last year, and I elected to repair the vehicle. During the trip, some of the suspension structure started to "go" so I was in Florida for a month, instead of 2 weeks, having repairs done, hence your long wait in hearing from me!
This is just a quick recap of what I've seen down there. I'm still sleeping off all the driving - 4,200 miles of it!
I saw a total of 3 alligators!
I saw only one snake in Florida, a huge brown watersnake.
I saw one other snake on a tiny island in Georgia - a black racer.
I saw a few turtles floating around in the canals - sliders I'm sure.
I netted a lot of Marie's Tilapias, Uro's, sunfish (Not dwarf/pygmy)
One pond up in Northern Florida had Nile Tilapias. One creek in the heart of the glades had a Port Cichlid.
Fishing: Caught a lot of gar - was going to keep some but they only had 1 row of teeth - Florida gars, right. Caught 2 bowfins, including one big boy. Many Uro's, some of which were monsters. Sunfish were caught as well. I observed several adult pairs of Peacock bass swimming around in the C-14, but they were not biting. One pair had a huge swarm of about 500 fry swimming freely in a 10 foot circle - quite a sight. (The fry were 2 inches)
Absolutely nothing was biting in the C-14 except the Uros and Sunfish.
Saw many wild iguanas - tried to catch some of the babies, but there was no way to catch them. Way too fast!!! Some were expert divers, as well.
Saw a teenager boy killed by a passing car.
Saw some very interesting plant life - was surprised at how small the mangroves are.
Saw Hemingway's house in Key West.
Saw the Ripley's Believe it or Not museum in Key West. Not for the faint of heart
The rotating tunnel of light is quite amazing.
Brought back one fish.
I think that's about it for now!
