Florida Trip........ where to camp, etc?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
By the way, my boat is in mothballs for the next several years. I am doing all of my fishing with a friend and his boat. He just bought a four stroke for it so we are going to be switching motors in the next several weeks. I'd invite you to go shark fishing, but I doubt it will be running when you are driving south. When you are on the return trip, we might be done with it.

LOl yeah Georgia does have strong repelant

WOW - awesome info, Chompers - definitely the kind of stuff I'm looking for - will definitely have to check out those spots!

LOL i loved the disney stuff, one day i'll go back. I thought orlando was pretty cool... but was only there a week and it was my first trip to the USA.

I have a special present for you if you can time it right.

The place to watch this launch is from Jetty Park at Port Canaveral. You can camp there for next to nothing but you will need reservations well in advance. Nothing beats watching the Space Shuttle for the first time, but you will have to wait till August for that. There is a Shuttle orbiter parked at the Kennedy Space Center Visitors Center.

I grew up in the shadows of NASA and saw all of the Apollo missions launch from the end of my street (I grew up on Merritt Island). The Shuttle launches pale in comparison to the Apollo launches, but that is ancient history now.

Here are some of my pictures from launches and a landing of Atlantis. Atlantis is landing again at KSC this Thursday. http://twinsdays2002.twinstuff.com/catalog.html

From down there, you lose the sound effects. That's like watching TV with home theater but with it muted :D Make it a point to go in August to see the Shuttle go up. If you can make it there Thursday for the landing, it will be well worth it. The best place is at the Visitors Center. You don't really have to pay to get in, park there and then hang out till it arrives. If there are spaces left, you can see it from the viewing area but they sell out pretty quick.

Don't worry about the rednecks though. You can buy some redneck repellant at Walmart as soon as you cross the border. They sell a stronger formula in Georgia and Alabama though. I sprayed some inside a Walmart one time and the whole store exploded.
