Hi all I recently added the fx6 to my 5x2x2 with 10 discus of about 4,5 inch they seem to be staying away from the heavy outpipe flow will they get used to the flow in time ? Or do discus simply not want that flow rate..
Cheers

Discus prefer calm water. I was gonna use a FX 5 in my tank but the water flow pressure from the outlet was too strong for my 72G. You can adjust the outlet pressure by partially closing the valve on the outlet line till you get the desired pressure if you want. As was I, but I told myself that it couldn't be good for the impeller to have restricting on it. So I just went with a small HOB filter and a large sponge filter. You could also make a DIY spray bar to spread out the pressure...................

Also, once you spread out the flow you will find that your discus will swim about more freely which is better for your viewing enjoyment. You get to enjoy the beauty of the fish more..............

 In general, calm water is preferred. Try some sort of spraybar to restrict the direct strong stream. Both my Eheim & XP4 use the bar. The HOB's are free, flow no problems. "T"

I have a 110g tank packed with discus and a high flow rate canister filter. What I did was i pointed the outlet towards the corner of the tank and my discus have no issues with it.

What i did with my fx6 is remove the nozzles on the tank outlet so the water shoots straight down to the floor of the tank and put a pile of rock underneath so it is turbulent for about a 3" column and calm in the rest of the tank.
