Flower power

Awesome flower ray, mines still quite pale compared to yours!

What black sand do you use? I can only get hold of Tahitan Moon sand which is pretty sharp or BD trading black sand which only comes in 1kg bags!

Don't use the Tahitan moon stuff, its ****e.
BD trading is the best, you can get it in 20kg sacks but its expensive. I paid £45 about 3 years ago for a sack.

Excellent cheers, will have to see if I can special order it in bigger bags through our suppliers (work at a LFS). I ordered in pack of 1kg bags last week and like the feel of it. Thanks fully I pay trade price, so shouldn't be too much to do out a few tanks with it.

I can give you the name & address of the guy that markets it if you want. He owns a small LFS near me called Barlows Aquatic Trading.

Yeh that would be great.

I'll put a special order in with our suppliers this week see where that gets me, I don't fancy paying retail price if I can avoid it!

Took a pic of my little female schroederi whilst doing a water change tonight :D

Very impressive flower ray bro...! look the strong yellow colour contrasted with black...

btw, bro any tips to help stabilise the colour of the flower ray...? my 7" ray is still rather pale... currently kept in a black background tank but w/o any sand or substrate.

Thanks for the kind words :D
The only tips I can offer is to keep them on either a black substrate or black tank bottom & be patient. Their colours don't really intensify until they hit the 10-12" disc mark. I kept the tank lights on for at least 8 hours per day for the first year or so & it seemed to help bring out her colour as well.
I've attached a few pics to show the development.
First one was taken when I first got her back in June 2003, 2nd one was taken in August the same year & the 3rd one was taken in March 2004.
