If I'm completely honest im not to certain, this is my first flowerhorn when I ordered him I did say I didn't want a short body but as I say I'm not sure, he has got one hell of a kok I must say it seams to be bigger every time I look at him ? he's 4 inch in the body at the moment. Is that a "short body" FH? I don't know much about them. I like the colors. He looks like he is all head and kok lol.
???? Love it ??. That's where his name came from my daughter named him, thank you very much?..It looks like he is growing a baseball in his forehead ? lol. Nice fish though.
It's a regular/long body, it just got the majority of its genes from a ZZ Red Dragon so it'll have a bit shorter of a body then most FH's. If it was a short body it would look allot closer to how a Blood Parrots body does. I would say tho, from how the last pic looks, that he could do with a day of fasting to help cut that gut down a lil bit. I recommend 6 days of feeding and 1 day of fasting every week to help keep that gut nice and slim. Don't want him putting on too much fat otherwise he may end up with fatty liver disease. If I'm completely honest im not to certain, this is my first flowerhorn when I ordered him I did say I didn't want a short body but as I say I'm not sure, he has got one hell of a kok I must say it seams to be bigger every time I look at him ? he's 4 inch in the body at the moment.
I’m a new flowerhorn owner and appreciate that advice I’ll have to try that out see if “sir Anthony Hopkins” red dragon,, will eat some fruit any other fruit ok? Diced apple? Or any citrus ?It's a regular/long body, it just got the majority of its genes from a ZZ Red Dragon so it'll have a bit shorter of a body then most FH's. Btw another thing ya could do, if the fish is willing, is to feed it fruits such as razzberries or blueberries. This helps the fish to clean out it's intestines and helps prevent constipation. It's also really healthy for em to eat fresh fruit from time to time. Granted some FH's will just outright refuse to even try em, I got lucky with how cooperative mine are.
With apples I would go with a nice soft fleshed variety, something easy to chew. I'd cut it up into small cubes roughly ¼in-⅛in in size depending on how big the fish is. Don't feed them the seeds tho as they are poisonous. The skin is also a no go.I’m a new flowerhorn owner and appreciate that advice I’ll have to try that out see if “sir Anthony Hopkins” red dragon,, will eat some fruit any other fruit ok? Diced apple? That's fantastic information thank you and thank you for the verification, I thought that might be the case with body shape. I do give him a fasting day once a week but he also gets spoiled ?, I am trying to hold back a bit more with the treats though. It's a regular/long body, it just got the majority of its genes from a ZZ Red Dragon so it'll have a bit shorter of a body then most FH's.
