Flowerhorn Aggression!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the FH sees the JD as a threat would be my guess, seeing as FH's are notoriously murderous. the FH could just be getting tired of having tank mates. i would bet once the main threat, the JD, is out the FH will go after the sev. i would remove both the JD and sev now before you wake up and find you have a single wet pet along with the guilt of not removing them when you had the chance.
FH are renound for for being unsociable.

Update! Not able to take flowerhorn out till this weekend..........but I noticed the tank water was a little cold (Im in phoenix and a heater is not always needed). So I decided to turn the heater on and in less than 24 hours the Dempsey came out of his corner and the Flowerhorn stopped messing him him completely.

Has anyone ever heard of this? BTW the water wasn't extremely cold before I turned on the heater, it was about 71-72

fh are aggressive fish and very territorial 75 gallon minimum for one fish by himself

Im aware of that, however it doesnt explain his sudden disinterest in the dempsey after only 24 hours of me turning up the temp.

Increasing the temp should actually make a cichlid more aggressive, 71-72f is low for the fishes in your tank....I'm pretty sure this sudden lack of aggression is only temporary and the Flowerhorn will return to its aggressive ways....the Jack Dempsey is being targeted because it is the most immediate threat to the Flowerhorn's dominance of the tank, eventually, if left in the tank, the JD will succumb to the Flowerhorn's relentless attacks......

I have a yellow Acara and Blue Acara. Blue is alot bigger and was dominant. Out of nowhere the yellow has been non stop chasing and stalking the Blue. Will not leave it alone and the blue is terrified. I have since seperated the yellow. I have other smaller fish too and the yellow ignored them all.

Its probably gonna be the same for you. You will have to decide who you are gonna keep. But know that the FH is aggressive and wont make a good community fish. So its a choice of whether you want a community or a hostile atmosphere.

Yeah pretty much the only thing you can say about this thread is that Flowerhorns are very agressive...lol

id recommend getting it its own tank enless you wanna be flushing you dead jack dempsey anytime soon...

Agree with this. Plus the Dempsey is the next closest to size and the FH sees him as the first to go..

With heat like that? The Dempsey was probably not happy at all, too cold to be active and the FH being a FH just kept having fun... Seeing his target, not caring about temp until his job is completed.
