Flowerhorn Ammonia in tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I did a 30 percent water change . I added media from an health beneficial bacteria media from a great tank and placed in the flowerhorn tank. I don’t know if I should feed it because he has popeye and I’m treating metroplex focus with shrimp to feed him it’s basically medicated food

I’d give it longer than that an reduce the quantity to about 30% every day for the next week or so and then settle into 30% every 3 days or so while the tank matures
Is the flower horn going to stay solo?

You’ve got a stressed fish that’s gotten some relief and needs continued relief but 2 50% changes in 8 hours is aggressive enough to be an additional stressor depending how they are performed. and you could see ich or other issues crop up- like the popeye.

If I don’t perform water change the ammonia will hill the fish. Ammonia should be yellow and I use seachem prime and that’s safe in reducing stress and detoxifying the water

I understand all of that. You have made it apparent throughout the thread that you are very reliant on chemicals to do nature and times work. By all means do another 50% after 8 hours if that makes you feel better. Playing catch-up when cycling a new tank can be very stressful for the fish keeper. I hope you stopped feeding the fish for the time being.

One thing I’m stressed out is his Popeyes I feed him metroplex and focus with food now I can’t which might affect his eye. Another think I tested the water again ammonia was 0.50ppm and nitrite was 0ppm and nitrate was around not sure how much is this. Does anyone know if my water is cycling? Please let me know
