Hello, I have been wanting to do this project for awhile now, I have a 50 gallon tank with a 6.5 inch male shortbody mercury flowerhorn in it and I've been searching for a breeding partner for him for awhile now, anyways I finally found someone who has a 3 inch blood parrot who lays eggs monthly( I've seen videos) , I'm going to pick her up tommorow and see how this goes, i will give her plenty of places to hide incase he gets rough with her, also going to leave her in a net divider until she acclimizes to the tank, just wondering if anyone had any advice? The pic below is how the tank looks, i will add more decorations tommorow before I pick her up

No advice from me...just locking in on what seems to be a neat project, what are you looking to create? Is this a common thing to do with flowerhorn?

To be honest not looking to create anything in particular, just want to see what I get haha I've had this fh from a baby and his results have been great so I wanted to see what his offspring ( if it happens) would look like

So I got the blood parrot female today, I set up the tank and put her a net divider for now to get her adjusted to the tank and either tommorow or Saturday I will let her have contact, i hope it goes well, here's a pic of the tank now

So far he's very aggressive towards the net divider where the blood parrot is( thankfully no contact yet haha)
Chances are the b.ps eggs are infertile (most are), however if that's the case why not breed your f.h to a salvini?

I believe most bp females will have viable eggs. Most bp males are sterile. If using a hybrid male usually he is the one you have to worry about being fertile. Most of the time Flowerhorn males with red eyes can be fertile. I could be wrong but the few couples I have bred this seems to be the case.
