my little ones did the same thing and the female even laid eggs on me but they ate them all up just a few days ago

hey guys., got myself a little bit of a situation here., i got a male fh which is 8 inches big and almost a year old., i also have a female fh which about 10 inches., she really is huge compared to the male and she s already ready to breed., i know this because her breeding tube is already out and ready to lay some eggs., my problem is that when i try to put them together in the same tank, the female would beat the hell out of the male., any advice or ideas?
 
Ummm from what i have heard the male needs to be larger to defend himself from the female. You could also try a seperator.
