i recently set up a few 40 gallon breeders because im trying to start a fish/reptile/other exotic animal store and although thats a project thats gonna take many years since im only 14 right now im starting small by breeding some fish and a few lizards and snakes. anyways i have a few questions about flowerhorns. i was wondering whats a good flowerhorn to start breeding like should i get a pair of golden bases or thai silks or SRDs or something. or do you think i should just buy 10-20 flowerhorn fry instead of getting a pair and then select the best of the bunch and try to pair them up once they are older. also if u have any tips on flowerhorn care pls let me know ive done a lot of research and own 2 really nice show flowerhorn but if theres any knowledge i should 100% know about flowerhorns lmk. thanks

Breeding fh for commercial purposes is not a good financial endeavor. The aggression and fast growth rate means you need lots of space for fish that may not be as valuable as the parents.
For somewhat predictable results and a more lucrative end you should breed within a strain.

i have the space and many tanks to raise the young in i was thinking of starting with either srds or kamfa bc almost all kamfa babies will sell for $100

They won't, trust me.
+1. Lol I can definitely say I've learned this bit the hard way. Went in thinking that I could just sell hundred of FH's and make bank on em. In all reality, not many ppl want to buy em. Most ppl don't want to dedicate a tank to a single fish that will try and kill anything and everything ya house with it. Most ppl want community fish since they can go into a community setup, and are generally less demanding.

If OP is wanting to make $ from FH's I would first recommend getting something bigger then a 40g breeder tank. Personally I wouldn't use anything less then a 60g tall, bigger is always better especially when it comes to breeding aggressive fish. Also many many tanks are going to be needed as the babies cannot be housed in large numbers together as they will cannibalize each other. Also another good point to mention is that ya need to do research into what FH's are common in your area along with what FH's are most popular in that area, online sales will cost ya more then what it's worth at the start so its far easier and more efficient money wise to stay local rather then trying to go national. Lastly I would also like to point out that no matter how many FH's ya produce your still going to have to cull the numbers back by roughly 80% to get the best of the best stock to sell, cuz honestly who wants to buy something that has deformations or poor color quality?

Magnus_Bane Magnus_Bane is on the money.
If you do manage a fertile male and female pair of kamfa the results from breeding them will still be 20% good - 80% trash. Those 20-50 fish will require at least 20 gallons each at 1". Gain breeding experience and knowledge before you go questing for riches. I personally wouldn't want to buy fish from someone that has no experience with them. Be an informed hobbyist first.
