I've had my 3 Clown Loaches for a year or so and they are about 4-5" long. They lived ok with my Oscar who was 10" in a 55g. The Oscar and the loaches were all put in the tank at the same time. The Oscar was about 1-2" when they came home. Again, Oscar left them alone and the Clowns would swim with him and steal food from him, but he never attacked them or hurt them in any way.

Now I have my 3 Clowns still, but since my Oscar died, I now have my little baby Flowerhorn who is about 2". He plays nice with the Clowns for now, but what are the chances he will get along with them as grows. There are plenty of hiding spots for the Clowns, and everyone is well fed.

its a hit or miss chance. if he gets defensive he might end up killing them. no real way of knowing. most flowerhorns refuse to have tankmates. some dont mind. only way to find out is try.

The Flowerhorn will be fine with them. In fact I have found that Loches and Botias are a great tankmate for FH. They do not seem to mind them. This can not be said for catfish though. While they can live with them. It has been my experiance that cats tend to get on their nerves and become targets.

Most fish don't bother loaches.

IMO it is never a good idea to keep loaches with over aggressive tank mates.

I have loaches with an Oscar, the Oscar couldn't care less. When you keep predators, it is always a risk keeping smaller fish. As many MFK'ers have found, you roll the dice, and sometimes the unexpected happens, good or bad. But, in my experience, larger loaches can fend for themselves.

:headshake Must be why I see so many "I lost my [insert fish name here] threads.

Right now my little FH tries to school with the loaches...he follows the Alpha loach around. Its pretty funny. We'll see what happens as he gets older and becomes the dominate one. So far its replicating the Oscar/Loach relationship I had.
