flowerhorn color blotchy and fading

I have a five month old flowerhorn his color and growth was amazing until about 3wks ago his color starting getting blotchy and almost looks like its fading. The tips of all of his fins have now turned white, he still seems healthy eats regularly and doesn't show any signs of stress (despite the fact that his tank mate is a 12'' Pacu) Is this genetic or some kind of PH imbalance in the tank? input please!

Posting a pic would help, but from what you just described, he may be in fact fading.

Faders are more rare than red base flowerhorn. Embrace it, your fish just got more unique.

Some Flowerhorn fade because of the Midas genetics in them. Its nothing wrong with them, it just means it will end up more light orange white colored.

lol its just some peoples preference on flowerhorns.

As for whats next, expect him to lose all of his dark colors.
