I have a question for those of you with more knowledge about flowerhorns. When purchasing a flowerhorn, at what point can you tell what the adult color, pearling ect. will be? In other words at what size will you be able to see the final look of a flowerhorn? Will many keep changing at 3", 6", 8"?

You can almost never tell unless the strain is very well established and the traits are fixed over several generation.

At around that size u should keep it solo, bump up the warmth of the water to about 86. Let adapt. You should see its colors/markings. Then it all intensify with age/growth. But then theres a fader type that turns into a different colored fish.

What a deal you got there! The petsmart around here is also selling what look like tiny flowerhorns as red texas. They are green with 3 black spots and a little pink. I think it's so weird but the workers there don't know the slightest thing about them.
