5 hartwegis?! That's nutssssss. They don't beat up on each other?
They do, but very little. FH keeps everyone in check. He is the king of the tank.

Here is mine...
1 FH, 5 midasmix, 5 hartwegis, 2botia loachs, 1 blue gill, 3 plecos.

i LOVE your setup... thats amazing how you're able to keep them together.

how big is that tank?

to mix fh in a community its best to let them grow up together.
ones introduced later might not fight at first but after a few stress full moments like feeding and water changes or using the gravel vac or even just growing to about 6in they might start trying to dominate the tank by killing everyone

Cool, thx
It's a 100g tank

I am able to swap in and out this FH with my other FH (fader) and the Reddevil in the avatar. The Fader and Reddevil are currently in their own breeders' tank with their lady friend. For now, I only allow a dominate male in the community at any given time. I believe I can put all of them together and most likely they will fight, but they will settle in a day or just hrs. I just hate looking at torn fins after the fight! If I ever do, I'll post pix.

Beside the one dominate male setup, the other tricks are to grow them up together (just like Dragonfish18 said) or to clutter the tank with lots of fish so that they can't be territorial. In either way, just can't have like 2 or 3 of these monsters in the tank. 5 seems to the min.

wow nice set up!

I kept my pearl FH with other larger cichlids in a 125G, of course she had her destructive moments, killed and ate an albino tiger oscar twic her size but other than that, just your standard cichlid behaviour, some fights/disputes over territory or food but on the whole worth it!

I did a similar thing... i would keep one male in the tank with a couple female and a large midas of unknow sex... i would swap the females out after every spawn.......i fond the females to be far more aggressive than the males.
And yes you defiantly need to grow them out together!!!!!! Or put very young fish in with the older ones... just be sure there are places to hide and that they are unable to be swallowed!:thumbsup:
