I feel lame writing this but...
I've always had my tank divided for my flowerhorn and blood parrot. Recently I decided to really try to groom him, so I removed the divider and the parrotfish. Since then he's been sorta just floating around. He's active when I'm holding food container, he eats, but otherwise he's just floating around. Water schedule is the same, regarding water changes and such. I do notice better kok growth, but he's boring now... He just sits in his pot and broods all day now..I have a miniatus grouper in another tank, and don't want another fish that just sits.

Btw. It's been 2 weeks, minus the parrot.

Was the parrot a female? I had a Red Texas that paired with a female RD. He was infertile so I sold his girlfriend. When she went away, he seemed very depressed and died shortly after...inactive & wouldn't eat. Tried other females, threw him in a community tank but ever since I sold his girl, he went downhill from there. Depression is a possibility...I suppose.

Oh wow...that sucks. Yes it was his girl. I did a test spawn about a month ago, but I think he's too young so I took her out. He's not even chasing the mirror anymore. Luckily I still have his girl, but I rather try to get him to max potential and most literature I've read suggest keeping them solo for kok growth. Maybe I'll send him a booty call on valentines..

I disagree with keeping them solo all the time. Having another male/female visible to them will bring out their aggression and that is when they really shine...along with pristine water conditions & quality food. Although, allowing them to see the same fish on other side of divider day in & day out does bore them to a point.

Good points here. Perhaps I'll put the colored divider back up when I perform water change. He can catch a glimpse of her ever so often.
