No way a divider is going to make your fish unhealthy. They put them their so they can keep 2. In 1 tank otherwise the fish would kill each other. Im starting to wonder where you get your info because most of it doesnt sound right at all. Pellets should be a staple food everything else is a treat. New life spectrum is the best multi rounded pellet for the money. It doesn't make any sense that those flowerhorn foods would be cheaper. Like rd said go for the 5lb. bucket its worth the money.

While prices in AU can be 2+ times what it costs for the same thing in North America, that's the cost of living in paradise.
The bottom line is if you buy in bulk containers the cost of feeding a single FH shouldn't be more than $5-6 a month, even for the premium foods, as you can feed a lot less compared to the cheapo foods. If you can't afford $5 a month to feed your fish you're probably in the wrong hobby.
