Flowerhorn Food?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
FH specialty foods are nothing more than marketing BS, exactly what Trace and myself were stating all along.

i have tried many types of FH food
tropical flowerhorn food, jbl novo dragon, jnbl novo sticks M and HIkari (bio gold plus, cichlid gold, staple, excel) all mixed together and have found it very good
lately i have come across XO starry and ever red which am testing out on 2 FH..they show some results but the Fh that have been fed with the hikari mix look more pearly
and now got some okiko platinum head huncher from a friend
don't know if its safe to mix every thing together (hikari mix+xo starry+ xo ever red+ okiko platinum head huncher) and feed to my Fh
what do you think?

I just bought 2 packs of the head up huncher from Thailand getting shipped to Australia now, is it any good? I've heard good things about it but what's your option?

It's trash and a waste of cash. You can probably get a better food locally in Australia. The excess protein will just pass through the fish and be wasted. Most of the flowerhorn foods are junk. Promote the fishes natural growth with a balanced pellet.

If you want miracles with color just get a Current USA l.e.d light fixture. You can tune it to make your fish any color you want haha.

I'm feeding hikari gold pellets right now, crude protein is 40% and humpy head is 51% so I thought it would be a good bulking food, but I'll take your word for it thanks mate won't be bothering with that stuff again

Flowerhorn specific foods usually has additives/hormones/enhancers that might "enhance" your fishes appearance but wreak havoc on the overall health of our fh, hikari gold pellets are great for flowerhorns :) I used to look for very high protein food for fh but as it turns out, it drastically shortens the fishes life :(

The ingredients seem to have natural colour enhancers listed, I guess that's how they try to suck you into buying a hormone filled pellet lol bloody tricky bastards

Yea those listed ingredients don't look very high quality to me lol. Wonder if the "attractant" is msg? Hikari used to use it in their saki goldfish products until a fairly recent reformulation. The worst I've ever seen was okiko platinum. Had like 60% protein, the pellets fell apart in water pretty quickly and the waste the fish produced was insane.

If i dig deep enough and find out its msg I'm gonna flush those pellets down the ****ter as soon as they arrive and never buy that crap again lol
