I have a young flowerhorn that's about 3", and he's in a tank with a mirror on the back. He would attack his own reflection the first couple of days inside this tank. I don't really check up on it often, but today I found him swimming all over the tank, flopping around, swimiming upside down, playing dead (i think..), and swimming inside his rock. He would come out sometimes when I feed him, but then run right back inside his rock. He's the only fish in there, the tank is 45 gallon, and hes been in there for 3 weeks. Anyways, is this normal behavior?

yes it is, flowerhorn ?'s belong in the hybrid section though.

He sounds like hes just shy, if you don't like it get him some tank mates. You won't be able to mix a lot of stuff with him and the tank is small so I suggest you get about 5 schooling dithers for him to beat up on. Tiger barbs are one of the most common but any peaceful schooling fish that doesn't get too big will work, as long as you don't mind him killing them off. If thats a problem why'd you get a big cichlid?

thread moved.

thx for the help. Unfortunately the mirror is not removable... I'll have to find him another tank. I don't have another fish to accompany him. He beat up an oscar twice his size, and my other fish are either not compatible or big enough to swallow him.

put in a back ground, put it inside the tank, possibly just whack a 3d background in if ure worried oabout a normal blue one?
