I got a Flowerhorn put it in my dads tank as a gift and in the tank there are some red devils/midas. Long story short FH got his *** kicked and he's pretty beat up. I just took him out recently now he's in his own tank a 29 gallon. Im just wondering what all I should do and he will be okay right? Tails all shredded and his head is torn up pretty bad also one side of his body.

Bump up the temperature to about 82-86 Fahrenheit. Add some aquarium salt and keep him well fed. You'll do fine...but a 29 shouldn't be a home for long term. Just something I would like to point if you haven't got that figured yet.

Yea not trying to keep him in a 29 for long just til he has recover from his injury. I just brounght the tank up from collecting dust just to make it a hospital tank for the fh and all my good heaters are used and now I'm stuck with a topfin heater that can't even heat the water up into the 80s so I'm hoping the fh will hold up til I get a better heater

no offense but you should no better to put a flowerhorn in a tank with midas and red devils..but like he said put the temp in 80's and get some aquarium salt but dont keep him in the 29 gallon for long..

they are robust fish, salt is good and freshwater is great. Its a small tank so frequent water changes should be in order. Use water that has sat out and been treated for chlorine's and such. Melafix may not be a bad idea. The temp is important and if possible I would recommend a new heater if you cant not get to high seventies or low eighties. Watch your water parameters, if you just set this tank up and are using a new filter your ammonia and eventually your nitrites and nitrates may become a problem. your fish is more than likely going to have a heavy respiration rate and with the higher temp the water may foul very quickly in an un-cycled tank. the result would be more stress on an already bumbed out fish. If you keep the water clean and good food coming in you will be giving him the best chance.

Thanks everyone. I'm aware that the fh and red devil was not such a great mix but in the tank I put it in it was successful before. Shouldbi do daily water changes. With the filter it has media from another tank.

that makes no sense at all. they all have the same temperament

what would of made alot more sense would be the whole introduction process and if those fish are older and already established...that would make it alot harder. was there an existing pair?

if you added a red devil to a flowerhorns tank it would get beat up. its all about who has the home turf and is comfortable.

There is a midas pair inj the tank. Fh kept charging at them that's how fh got beat up so bad it wouldn't stop messing with the midas. If it didn't do that it wouldn be in such a bad mess. Midas is bigger than the fh but fh

Flowerhorns can get very aggressive and will not back down from fight problem with this on and midas same way

it's not irrelevant when both fish's temperament is aggressive and inclined to fight :D

but I agree with the rest of what you said, if a Midas were introduced to a FH tank, the situation miight well have been reversed . . .
