Based on the FH's juvenile coloration, there is a good chance that the blue pearling will give way to red or even gold pearling, a very desirable trait.

Will I be able to tell if it's male or female any time soon do you know

I'm sorry if this is the wrong way to post my question. I'm having trouble finding the post new thread button and I've been researching how to do it to no avail. Anyway I was hoping someone here could help me identify my male Flowerhorn. I bought him when he was very young from LFS and took a gamble on him. He was thrown into their fish order that week without a proper label... Just marked as flowerhorn. Got him for $10. He's now 6 months old and eats like a horse. My personal guess from research is Blue dragon possible kamfa... Maybe a hybrid of the two. He's not vibrantly colorful but his personality is amazingly awesome. I love him just the same. I'm hoping to accurately identify so I can introduce a female from time to time with a divider slowly for breeding. I just don't want a hybrid of a hybrid of another hybrid lol... If that makes sense. Any help or guess is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I believe at the top and bottom of each page it says to post new thread. Just go to the section you want to post in. To answer your question you have a lower quality zz flowerhorn. Not a blue dragon and definetly not a Kamfa but still an awesome fish. Still has the flowerhorn personality.

Ok cool thank u. I was thinking zz too at first but some of the coloration highlights threw me off plus what I was told at LFS. Just the same he's awesome and Will have a tank to himself to enjoy and possibly a female. Though is it really worth trying to breed him? If I got a colorful female would it improve Chances of color genes being passed on or just produce more lower quality zz babies? Thanks for responding.

Yeah no problem man. I am inexperienced with breeding hybrids but I do know there is a lot of trial and error and I doubt it will be worth it in the end. You could try and get a female but you would have to know if both are fertile and if they like each other. The female may try and lay eggs but that’s doesn’t mean the male will want to fertilize them. Best probably just to keep him solo.

True. Best to save the breeding when my fish room is built. By then I should enough space for several species only flowerhorn tanks with individual males and females coming into contact a few times a day with dividers. Such an awesome fish with a big personality. Like owning a dog that lives in water.
