He was actually given to me as a “masterpiece” SRD flowerhorn and I’ve been to numerous shops that specialize in flowerhorns here in NYC to try and see what he really is, but they’ve all said different things such as magma, kamfa, kumalau etc. He was imported from Thailand and I believe this is him while he was there so as you can see, his color is starting to change for some reason. He’s in a temporary 10 gallon tank for about the next month then I’ll move him back into the 75g and that’s just some cheap starter pack filter. If it was given to you as an srd then its likely an srd. Just not a typical or high quality srd because it has low amount of red coverage.
Flowerhorn strains cannot just be imagined onto a fish. This is where all the confusion comes in. Breeder provinance sets the name. Petstore fh are just petstore fh unless sold as a certain type ( and not a name they just made up).
Is that a fluval c series filter? Pull the intake extension down lower and it will pull that crap out of your water.

Thank you! I will move him back into the 75g for sure. The only reason I moved him to it is because the 75g has a dark background and sand which made his colors darken a lot, which changed within an hour of moving him to the 10g. I plan to mix the black sand with white sand and hopefully he’ll keep his lighter colors. There’s also a fairly large red eared slider turtle in the 75g that scared him a bit, so I want him to gain a little confidence before moving him back. Its a great fish even of you dont know exact strain. Could have been fed something to give it the red or could just be getting used to change.
Filter intake strainer is exactly the same as my fluval c4s so I figure thats what you had haha. Better get it out of the ten gallon quick.
