The last pair of fish that bred in my community the male killed everything else. That's why I don't want to breed.

I just had that happen with my short body texas pair. I had a nice community tank of them and then a pair formed and the day after they laid eggs they killed the majority of their tank mates. It was my fault as I went against my better judgement in not keeping a single sex community tank but I figured that they grew up together it might work out...dead wrong.

Your male is stunning and yes definitely healing up nicely. You should really consider allowing them to breed, but I fully understand the undertaking it is to maintain the pair and raise the fry. On the flip side, he might be shooting blanks...just the curiosity and the added valve of discovering that you may be in possession of a fertile king kamfa male would be enough to get me going.

Also, that female...:D...at least breed the female with something and get fry from her lol one day I hope.

Yeah she doesn't like any males except this Kamfa lol but all the males were flirting like crazy but since they paired they stopped.

Here's my male "unfaded" red Texas

I got a plate full of fertilzed eggs (hopefully truly fertilized and not blanks lol).
IHSNSHAIK you have beautiful fish! I have a immense love for Texas cichlids...I had a wild caught male, which is what actually got me into the hobby years ago. Can you explain the fading process with RT? Unfaded I assume are from a RT line but are the regular texas color traits? And I've seen RT fry that have black spotting, does that typically fade with maturity or can it be a coloring that stays during their lifetime like fader flowerhorns? I'm gonna be adding a tank soon to my collection and was gonna dabble in Escond./ RT but wanted a better understanding....not much I could find on Google about it

Awesome your male is getting some action! Lol
A unfaded is just a term for it. A Texas parents has the gene for it and it didn't pick up the gene for it hence the unfaded portion. It may be a carrier for the disease or it didn't fade. So you're right just a RT line. In my case my Texas fins are full of red. This picture shows a good view of it.

It's very rare for Texas to fully fade like how my red Texas has. Many have black blotches everywhere and don't fade too much or at all.

Love the pair! good job!

Red texas are hybrid crosses of a texas and a midas, parrot, srs, red shock, or rose queen etc, etc. No pure texas variety fades. The initial F1 cross looks more like kamfa rather than texas but back-crossing the F1 Red Texas with a pure texas will give the new F1 Red Texas line the orange/red flesh they are famous for while maintaining the texas look.

There is a difference between Red Texas and Super Red Texas other than marketing. They are both produced from the same batch and can be siblings. The difference is that high quality Red Texas don't fade but have orange flesh and may maintain their black markings while Super Red Texas fade and loose all markings except their signature pearls. Beware of the "pre-faded" branded "super" red texas. There is no guarantee that they will ever fade. Just another marketing ploy to sell lower quality fish at a premium price.

The time-frame it takes for Super Red Texas to fade cannot be determined without knowing when their parent faded. If the parent faded under an inch then there will be a percentage of the fry that will also fade under an inch. However, if the parent took years to fade then that will also translate into the fry. High Quality Super Red Texas fade under 2.5" IMO

Thanks for the explanations! I definitely understand it better now. I know they can be very expensive but what is a fair price on a RT or SRT?

ZachLL ZachLL as a keeper of red texas for a fairly long time. you can spend upwards to 200$ for a multiple order of 1.25-1.5 inch fry, or upwards up to 250$ for one nice red texas transaction on aquabid.com that is your best bet in getting a good quality red texas rather than using craigslist. you'll see on aquabid they will have listings from 100$ to 150$ to 250$ depending on whether it is fading, pearling quality and size. then transhipping can cost roughly 70 to 100$ depending on the size. most i have ever spent on a good RT was 250$ with the shipping included. here is the outcome

Beautiful SRT you got Deuxe! Thanks so much for that info as well! Buying fry scares me bc I like to have an idea of what I am getting and fry can change so much into adulthood even with quality parents. I am defiently going to keep my eyes open on aquabid! Craigslist in my area doesn't offer alot in RT/SRT/Flowerhorns. I am going to see the guy I got my Fader pair from this weekend to see what he has imported...only an hr drive from me so I will see what I can find!

I have a Fader flowerhorn pair. The male is red eyed and the female is white eyed. She is about 4-5 inches and my water parameters are ph 7.5, temp 83.5. I've tried raising and lowering the temp, as well as Epsom salt....still no eggs. Should she have laid eggs by now or any suggestions to try? I have had her since July and she was about 3 inches when I got her, she seems healthy....makes me wonder if my Male is fertile.... they were both imports from the Phillipines.
