I have a question regarding Flowerhorn's longevity. Most sites have FH's living 8-10 years but I've yet to read of one that old... I know that is a fairly typical longevity for CA Cichlids... but given all the breeding FH's go through, is their longevity significantly less? I've seen loads of threads of well kept FH's passing away in the 2-3 year range. Is this typical?

Thanks!
Andrew

When people breed for looks then sometimes health is cut short. It's not just the breeding either - it's also going to be diet as well. While a beefed up fish is nice, some of the foods people feed can put a lot of fat into a flowerhorn. Fatty organs and organ failure is possible if a fish is fed bad foods, this applies to all fish, not just flowerhorn.

Very high quality Flowerhorn can be very very fragile. I have heard of several MP Flowerhorn dropping dead after spawning and stuff like that. If you search past threads you can find more info on this.

not really about the quality or look of the FH.

It's how they carry themselves. Depends on the fish..
