Flowerhorn mouth not closing

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i feed him 3mm sinking pellets, and he seems to be eating well, i think I'm going to leave him alone and let him be and hopefully he will get better. The ph level is 7.8, very very low nitrite levels, and 25-35 ppm nitrate levels.

Looks like duck lips, his stomach seems bloated aswell .
Have u had him for awhile or did u just get it.

Its always good to deworm a fh whenever u purchase.
It doesn't look good

+1 to duck lips , its not good if it is sorry to say not sure if there is a cure a fh expert on here will though , my flowerhorn had it for a while before I lost him prob few months :( , look up duck lips symptoms see what you think

To me the mouth looks pretty clean. If I'm not mistaken Duck lip usually has swelling or a fungal bacteria. And it's a day or 2 before this happens. Did you notice anything wrong at all before this?
If not I think he may have just dislocated it's jaw in my opinion.

If it is duck lips (Flexibactor columnaris) the first thing to do is get the temp under 82'F, the bacteria is always present, but most virulent at that temp and above.
I will let aquanero (Tom) prescribe a drug treatment.
Here are some pics of the disease in a beani I had, I noticed it after a summer heatwave hit, it appeared, and took about 2 days to die.
No other fish were effected.

Did your fish have a bloated stomach as well, I'm curious,l. It kind of looks normal from what I can see.

Can you pm Tom to see what he recommends.

This disease is pretty comon in flowerhorns and it would b nice to know what meds to have incase this happens to any of our fish.

I've never seen a successful treatment of this but I'm wishing the fish the best
