Flowerhorn purchase?

There is no "right" female...even if your 1st batch yields 10% Masterpieces it doesn't mean your next batches will be the same. Thats just it, Flowerhorns are way too mixed to be consistent. Just because you get a double dragon line female doesnt guarantee the frys will have it either, etc.

The image of a Pearly female is for sales/advertisement purposes. Im sure a lot of the frys will look decent and a small % will be stunners. But at least you can match those pearly frys with the pearly mother and pearly father. Also if you have a stunner pearly female to breed, at least you know some of the frys will turn out pearly.

Im spending $100 or more, so a washed out female is not appealing. I'll take my chances on a pearly female, since the offsprings are always a toss up.

There's definitely a right female. Knowing how that female genetic wants to display itself is a matter of how it wants to play with the male's genetic. You can breed a double row female with a single row male and produce countless numbers of double row. Or breed a double row female with a free marking and 90% are free marking. And this will yield a constant number/ratio as well. But to know that right female, is to do a trial and error from breeding. Everything overseas is set like a pedigree not on papers, but by their own note and connection from one to another. What genetic it contains, what is dominant, what isn't, and etc. But fortunately, USA hobbyist buy fish by how they look. Not by the building blocks on the DNA alone. Which is why I said in the first place that while USA hobbyist can breed some nice fish, consistancy of the nice fish isn't comparable to overseas. And we're talking about 1 pair to 1 pair ratio of consistency here. Not our numbers of pairs v.s. gazillions of theirs. Just can't compete against something that they do as a living...not as a hobby. Kind of like saying you can catch more numbers of bigger fish than commercial fisherman...really? You decide...
But I will tell you guys something about breeding. While your pair may breed consistent offspring, those offspring will not breed what your original pair throws out. Look at the trend of Tan King, Golden Apple, King Diamond, and etc. All those fish have either one or two pair at most. Every single batch is about just the same as one another. But those offspring doesn't throw out the right combination to keep the trend going. This is why I said - good females are all over. But finding the right female is a different story.

Knowing your sellers and friendship through the seller is your only way into the first stepping stone for ordering from overseas. I don't worry about sellers scamming me, and I'm willing to send through Western Union(which I did on a few occasions) without any second thinking that I may get swindle. No ordered have failed me so far...

yeah. you got to go with the good ones. look around enough and it will become apparent who is a scammer. People who treat aquabid like amazon r the ppl who get scammed.
