Not true...both are actually ready to breed at their present size given conditions are right (setup and they getting along play major factors). Both are ZZs and males are commonly fertile young whereas kamfas may need time to mature or may not be fertile at all. Only speaking from experience. During my breeding days, I’d have multiple batches in growout tanks where young 2-3 inches paired up and spawned successfully.I just wanted to make you aware that neither one of you fish is an SRD. RD yes; but not SRD. That being said, Im glad you are excited about your new flowerhorn, especially your new male. Just be aware, females can start laying eggs at 2-3 inches while fertile males often need to be 5-7 inches before they reach maturity. So even if your female decides to drop eggs for this male it might be 12-24 months before this male can fertilize the eggs.
I feel like what you are saying is true IF the parents and offspring are zz's with heavy trimac genes in them. I too have had that experience with low end zz's. However have you ever had a 2-3 male SRD or RD fertilize eggs? Because I have never seen that happen and if you have I would love to see the pictures. I mean no sarcasm or anything, I just have never seen that personally in my circles of fellow hobbyists. And yes Kamfa's are slow to grow and mature but man is it worth the wait. There is a slow development even in Kamfa females. I have had three Kamfa females that have taken 2x-5x as long as RD females to lay eggs. Not true...both are actually ready to breed at their present size given conditions are right (setup and they getting along play major factors). Found few pairs young pairs dating back to 2013. All had successful spawns.I feel like what you are saying is true IF the parents and offspring are zz's with heavy trimac genes in them. Last 2 pics are actually of the same pair..siblings. Second pic shows male developing a kok. Parents below...male’s kok gets much bigger than shown:The first pic looks like the the zz/trimacs I have watched breed at 2-3 inches. Ok so you bred that female from the second and third pictures to different males. Did she spawn with the male in the second picture? The one titled as Tiger Kamfa?
