It is important you get a bigger tank of you want this type of fish. What is the injury on his side did he scrape on something or is it ammonia burn?

What are the specifics of the situation? Waterchange schedule, water paramaters, temp, lighting? Check the flowerhorn care thread stickied at the top of the forum and see if there is anything in there you are deviating from in a big way and correct it.
