So today I picked up a flowerhorn from a local petco. I am curious what it will end up looking like. It was only $14 and is about an inch and a half. Little guy has a decent amount of spunk, but the German Blue ram doesn't seem to be a fan of him. He doesn't seem to fight back much but also takes defensive positions quite well. Waiting to see what kind of balance will come to my little 55 grow out tank. Once he reaches the 5-6" mark I plan to put him in my 125 with ornate bichir and fire eel. Any tips? I will attach a photo

I realize the petco flower horns are on the lower end of the color spectrum. But I am curious what he/she may look like in the months to come. Are these really as nasty as everyone has said, or can a flower horn raised in a community tank be tolerant of other fish? I want to eventually put it in with my fire eel and bichirs, but if I can expect constant power struggle I may need to consider setting up a 3rd 75 gallon (love petCo dollar a gallon sales) just to ensure I keep all my fish healthy.

Flowerhorns can take out a Bichir easily. It's subjective some are nice guys and some are killers. I have a community 220 with them. I raised most and bred them and all their life been in community tank and everyone has pecking order. I can add anything less than 5" but something big my big alpha gets mad and will hunt him unless it's a female

I would google , " petco flowerhorn " and probably the first few pictures would be about right.
he looks a little on the dark side, what you have with him right now ( im no expert but dark usually means stressed ) and that may hinder his growth.

So I went to the petco again today and I saw a beautiful red flowerhorn. I decided to pull the trigger. Once I put the bag in the aquarium the flowerhorn I had immediately tried to attack the fish (couldn't get to it). I saw the writing on the wall and thought I may lose my new one so I moved the older flowerhorn into the 125. It may get eaten by my bichir, but ah well... not going to chance losing this one I just got.

Any ideas on what this one could be? It is about an inch and a half.

Red dragon zz flowerhorn looks male nice red on fins and full flower line.

Red dragon.. Nice colorings and markings on him.

I'm a little worried about him, he is taking a very passive role in the aquarium and I haven't seen him eat yet. Should I put him in a fry net and give him frozen food like blood worms, or do you think he will be okay. At the moment he is hiding in the top back corner behind the filter tubes.
