I was curios as to what peeling actually is and what does it look like when its happening? How big are they when this usually occurs? My flowerhorn is 4" and is losing scales... THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Peeling or fading is just the base color of the fish changing colors. Like a midas losing the bars and turning orange or red. There is a sticky that explains this at the top of the hybrid page I believe.

If your fish is losing scales its not peeling or fading its something that is not good. Some type of illness.

Well I'm not alrmed about it really he was just put in a tank with my Electric Blue Jacks and I think they are just picking on him but I havent seen them fighting yet... Just had read about peeling and didnt know exactly what to think... he acts fine and has good color still and doesnt have a care in the world. So are peeling and fading the same thing? When can I expect him to start getting his final adult colors? THANKS!

That is a great example! Beautiful fader thiena!! My fader and midas looked much worse. They always looked like they had some sort of skin disease. Pretty funny though the first time I saw it I spent hours and days trying to figure out what was happening and I kept waiting for my fish to die. All for nothing:irked:. In the end she turned out nice but nothing like the one above. Here is an image of my fh that was fading

Well if I was able to upload a photo with my phone I would show you guys but I don't know how to do it yet. My flowerhorn looks to be a ZZ. It has a tan face with a full flower line outlined in a teal color and red fins and body fading to almost black on the edges and to his tail. He was about 2 inches when I got him a month ago. Thanks!

When you make a reply go to the advanced option and there should be a place to manage attachment. That is where you would select the photo you want and then upload. It's pretty straight forward.

Its hard to see in the pics but several of his scales have come off and he doesn't seem to mind at all... he's very personable and will already eat from my hand. Hope you guys can help me out. Will he change colors drastically or just a little? Does he look good to you guys? For a flowerhorn...
