So as i found at my lfs a male flower horn, (about 4") I believe he is a zz and i added him to my tank with my female (5 inches) and a few feeder gold fsih. Man for the first couple hours they where best friends. killing the goldfish together, i swear it was love. I come back 5 hours later and now they are locking lips and one of thier lips is swollen and shreaded bad. The other fish has many bites on the face. I read this is a mating ritual but it seems a little to bdsm then make loving. Is this normal?

Well i googled locking lips and alot of other sources say mating. So i should seperate these two asap?
your female is larger then the new male. they are fighting. see the male has to "tame" the female for courting. if the female cannot be "tamed" she will continue fighting with him because he isn't "stronger" then her.
