They are like puppies, always bet for food when they see me come close to the tank

I kept mine with a female African cichlid and they get along fine

There are many types of cichlids which each cichlid having a different requirement. Special flowerhorn food are meant for flowerhorns in specific and they normally boost the color and KOK.. I use these food items and I have had no problems at all...

Other food items like market prawns, blood worms and chopped up fish are often fed to flowerhorns...

Only the really good great flowerhorns have awesome coloration and a small KOK when they are 2 - 3 inches but for most flowerhorns the color and KOK developes as the fish grows. I think that with good food and clean water a colorless flowerhorn can become colorfull and get a decent sized KOK even if you do not feed special flowerhorn foods...
