where are u midasmixer? im in rowland. i presume your somewher in chino?corona?
also midasman. im not geting a 100 anytime soon. btw ima freshman so i dont have a job or anything. so shouldnt get two red dragons? cuzz i herd that sometimes fh like living in smaller tanks. also if its possible, i just dont want my fh to lose color.maybe when im 16 i can get a job and save up for a bigger one. also if they breed i can only careofr the babies for some time , i would need to give em away. and also, if the pair doesnt need a divider, would a 60g then be ok? and lastly thanks for your help

Yeup, I grew up in Chino. Freshman in HS? You're exactly my bro's age. FH can be pretty expensive for a HS kid. Not just the price tag on the fish, but also the food, and the med. Keep your water clean for all your fish to avoid medical bills and headache. I had only guppies and goldfish to play with at that age LOL. If you are just starting this as new hobby, 60g with 1 FH is a good start. And if you do decide to get another FH, I would use a divider 1st to make sure things are cool, there is always a chance for you to leave it there permantely. I grew one my FH to be around 10" body length in a 60g with divider, then I traded him in for a female reddevil and a JK.
I've also heard the same thing long time ago, FH likes to live in smaller tanks, I think its mainly to piss them off so the color would show up better. But, I think mine are happier in my 100g than my 60g. FH can change their color depending on environment: background, substrate, mood, food, etc. I find the male to display their best color when it's courting a female.
Ohh boy, I typed too much. Glad to be able to help.
FH Experts, please correct me if I am wrong with any of my comments, I don't want to give him the wrong info. Thanks

on the 60 gallon is a possibility. it shouldnt be to bad.

It's not hard to keep FHs and not hard to keep 2 FHs in a 60 gallon tank. I've had 2 8 inch FHs in a a divided 60 and they were fine. The bigger the tank, the more stable the water quality after water changes because it isn't such a drastic environmental change.

For food, buy Hikari Koi staple. It's all in the genes, not in the food.

Yes, it can and will get pricy, not to mention it will occupy alot of your time.

So why don't you just focus on raising one nice FH instead of breeding it? Still very rewarding and less stressful. Plus you'll have more time to study, get a good paying job, and then get as many tanks as you want ;) GL man
