I picked up this flower about a month ago, now I have a feeling something is wrong with my her as her disc is slightly pink. At first I thought it was nothing, but she has lost her appetite and is eating very little now. Maybe one nightcrawler every other day. She is getting skinny and I'm starting to worry.

I hope someone can help me with this...

I'm leaning towards taking my sand out and leaving it bare bottom. Sand might not be fine enough?

Any input on what it is and how to treat it would be much appreciated. Do you guys think she is infected? :(

Here she is the first day I got her..

Have you checked your water parameters I am no ray expert but I have read that pinkish red could be a sign of amonia burn make sure you check it hope its ok

I check my water everyweek with dip strips. No nitrite and no ammonia. Nitrates are at 20-30ppm.

Tank is very lightly stocked.. Used to do water changes once a week but since I got her I've been doing it every 3-4 days.

The disc itself looks to be in good shape. That is pretty odd. What are the parameters (temp, ammonia, etc)? Was it WC or CB? Have you tried the usual w. salt and upping the temp?

Just saw all the follow up posts, what does her underside look like? Is it the same?

the sand does loo kind of course... it couldn't hurt taking it out the easiest way to solve issues is trial and error eventually we'll be able to figure it out with the sand being course it could be giving her an irratation like you aid remove the sand and then see if it starts healing up

Id do a water change straight away of about 30-40% and do regular smaller water changes until it starts to go away. Also try cleaning the gravel or removing it and using a finer grain or sand, not too deep though as it can harbour a lot of dirt.

I hope it pulls through its a stunning flower ray!

I'm sure she is wild as no one has been able to breed flowers yet. I normally don't use salt but I just added some yesterday..

Underside looks like the veins is the reason why her disc looks pink.

I just did one yesterday.. I do 30% every sunday and thursday.. I'm going to start pulling some sand out this thursday and see what happens from there.

Anyone else have any other input? Is she infected? If she is I need to get her some meds fast..

IMO - it does not look like an infection because the disc looks in pretty good shape besides the red inflammation. I would definitely check to make sure the water parameters are pristine. I'm not sure how accurate strips are, but my API kit is spot on.

As for substrate, if it doesn't have sharp edges I doubt that would be the problem. Unless there are pre-existing bacterium dwelling in it.

Has she been hrough an extensive Prazi treatment yet? If not she needs to be.

If you're gonna keep rays it's a good idea to keep meds on hand, as if you have to order them you lose valuable time. Binox/Nitrofurizone, and Prazi at least.

I'd remove the rocky substrate. Maybe put in a light layer of sand. Up waterchanges to everyother day. That should get the pink out within a week or 2. Rays produce much larger amounts of waste then typical fish do. WCs need to be done accordingly.

Gorgeous ray you have there. :)
