  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
take gravel out. do 50% or more water change daily for a couple of weeks. keep at 80deg. feed as much at she will take 3 times a day. she'll be fine.... flowers are tougher than people think. the key is to CHANGE THE WATER!!!!!!!!!!

IMO - it does not look like an infection because the disc looks in pretty good shape besides the red inflammation. I would definitely check to make sure the water parameters are pristine. I'm not sure how accurate strips are, but my API kit is spot on.

As for substrate, if it doesn't have sharp edges I doubt that would be the problem. Unless there are pre-existing bacterium dwelling in it.

My API test kit always shows nitrate = 0 and I know there should always be some nitrates in the tank so I stopped using the kit. Either way.. any amounts of nitrites and ammonia would show up in the dip strips and they don't so I know my water is prestine.

Has she been hrough an extensive Prazi treatment yet? If not she needs to be.

If you're gonna keep rays it's a good idea to keep meds on hand, as if you have to order them you lose valuable time. Binox/Nitrofurizone, and Prazi at least.

I'd remove the rocky substrate. Maybe put in a light layer of sand. Up waterchanges to everyother day. That should get the pink out within a week or 2. Rays produce much larger amounts of waste then typical fish do. WCs need to be done accordingly.

Gorgeous ray you have there. :)

I'm sure she has already been through treatment, previous owner had her for a while and she was doing great in his tank..

Seems like everyone came up with the same reasoning that my rocky substrate is the cause. I will remove it slowly starting today..I will most likely be keeping it barebottom though.

Thanks for the input guys, lets keep our fingers crossed~!

Do you know what type of bottom the ray was on before? How often do you gravel vac your tank? The substrate looks to be smooth in your pics but still could be your problem.

He had her in a barebottom and sand bottom, but his sand was much finer than the one i have her in currently. I don't gravel vac often but I do stir it up and siphon whatever floats on the top layer out. I'll be taking the substrate out now so we'll see how she does.

I just looked on the site.. looks like my substrate is okay for soft bellies but not recommended for burrowers. Hopefully that is our culprit.

bro i would remove all the gravel and go bare bottom. looks like its getting a rash from the substrate.

The Garlic Xtreme stuff works wonders for diminished appetite. Might be a worthy investment to get her aappetite back. I used the stuff for a ray I had that started refusing crawlers. Now it's back to eating normal again AND the CB pup that's in the tank has began eating shrimp and smelt instead of just crawlers like she was prior to the garlic. Seems like the stuff will last forever too. I used it for 2 weeeks and can't hardly tell there's any missing.

x2, after the initial shipping stress, flowers are as tough as motoros. WCs and removable of gravel seems like a must. Try to keep everything as simple as possible for now.

Does it really work? Almost everyone I asked says it does nothing to rays. Even Nic says its a waste of money if you are planning it for rays.

I've already tried Garlic Guard by SeaChem with no luck. HOWEVER The most I have seen her eat was with some Nitro Nightcrawlers from Wal-mart, she ate like 5-6 of them but it turned my tank green so I do not want to get them again. Could this be another reason why she lost her appetite?

Yup.. I had to make sure the substrate was the culprit before I stressing her out even more by removing it. But it seems like everyone agrees with me so the gravel has to go!
