Thanks for the post and the info. You've 'officially' modified my plans for my future monster tank! I looked up Nelumbo nucifera and yup that is it. I'll keep a snapshot of the white one and research it with some of the plant stores or perhaps at the Monterey Aquarium. You certainly took a 'sterile' part of the tank and sump and turned it into an attractive part of nature.
